Move it! Too much standing is bad, study finds

We’ve all heard the phrase sitting is the new smoking, but new studies point to issues with too much standing, as well. The key may be movement. Our bodies weren’t designed to remain at rest (unless we’re sleeping) for long periods of time. People who stand for long periods at work may have another reason to join their seated colleagues in moving more. When researchers followed 7,300 Ontario workers aged 35 to 74, they found the risk of heart disease was higher among those who mainly stood on the job compared to those who mainly sat.
