Anxiety Is Contagious. Here’s How to Contain It.

Despite our best efforts to remain calm and rational in uncertain times, social media, constant media coverage and the feelings of those around us can derail our best efforts to calm our anxiety.  This article is reassuring as it outlines why both positive and negative feelings are contagious and provides us with tools to reset ourselves when our environment is making it difficult to do so.  If you have never tried meditation and would like to, these are five apps with free versions to get you started:  headspace; calm; aura; stop, breathe, think; and insight timer.

As my class began on Thursday (March 10 th), I looked around at my undergraduate and graduate students. Their faces were somber. I asked how they were doing, but I already knew. Harvard and Princeton had, days earlier, announced that they were closing in response and as a precaution to the COVID-19 pandemic.
