Johnston Group created the Advisor Charitable Match Program to team up with our advisors across the country who are supporting community initiatives that make a difference.

The most recent statistics from Citizens for Public Justice reports that a staggering 5.8 million people in Canada (or 16.8%) live in poverty. Knowing this is a time of crisis, Lyndon Dyas and the team at TD Benefits decided to step up by supporting Mamas for Mamas.

Lyndon and his father Tom Dyas, who is the founder of TD Benefits, are the local advisors for Chambers Plan employee benefits. And Johnston Group, the plan’s administrator, was happy to match the financial contribution as part of their Advisor Charitable Match Program to help local communities.

The “Dyas Duo” were adamant, “We needed to support this not-for-profit that supports mothers and caregivers in crisis.”

Mamas for Mamas provides ongoing support to individuals and families facing various poverty-related struggles. Their mission is to change the landscape of poverty through innovative approaches to financial barriers faced by struggling families. While their name is Mamas for Mamas, they welcome caregivers of any gender identity or expression, including men and trans, non-binary, and two-spirit clients.

“It’s hard enough being a parent without the stress of clothing or food insecurity, lack of appropriate mental health care, and everything else that can easily fall through the cracks in our busy society,” says Mamas for Mamas.  The organization offers individualized help navigating the available resources for food security, affordable housing and education, and provides access to an in-house mental health team where counselling is available at no cost to those who qualify.

“This is a completely unprecedented time,” says Mamas for Mamas. “Please, be kind to yourselves and to others. If there was ever a time to build longer tables and not higher fences, it’s now.”
