One in seven unhoused individuals in the York Region of Ontario are youth, some as young as 13 years old. After hearing Lesley Sims speak about the crisis teens were facing, advisor Dean Teasdale and the team at Norbram Group Insurance knew it was time to get involved.
360°kids steps in for homeless and at-risk youth ages 13-26 to provide holistic solutions to youth homelessness. Beyond housing, they surround kids in crisis with care by filling the crucial need for programs and support in education, employment, health and wellbeing.
Norbram Group Insurance has been supporting 360°kids every year since 2017. “Each year I reach out to the organizers and discuss what their needs are,” says Dean. “We donate used clothes, boots and warmer items, and our monetary donations have been used to purchase new items for kids who must leave their homes without any belongings.”
Norbram Group Insurance is a local advisor team for Chambers Plan employee benefits in York Region, and Johnston Group, the Plan’s administrator, was happy to match their financial contribution.
Other initiatives Dean and the team at Norbram have contributed to include providing the kids and staff with a catered Christmas dinner, purchasing new pool cues for their donated pool tables, and the newest campaign, to “fill the fridges” with healthy foods and snacks.
“We have been fortunate enough to meet the incredible staff who work at this facility and the youth who directly benefit,” says Dean, “and we have watched as the 360°kids Richmond Hill Youth Hub has grown to accommodate more youth in need every year.”
