Advisor Charitable Match

Johnston Group created the Advisor Charitable Match Program to team up with our advisors across the country who are supporting community initiatives that make a difference.

When Jason McKittrick learned that the number of people using a local food bank in his community had doubled over the last two years, with over one-third being children, he took action.

“That understanding made this organization an obvious choice,” says McKittrick, “It’s important to help people around the world, but I think you also need to try to solve the problems you find right here at home.”

McKittrick, who is the local advisor for Chambers Plan employee benefits, made a donation to the Orangeville Food Bank, and Johnston Group, the plan’s administrator, was happy to match that contribution.

Orangeville Food Bank says they are 100% community supported. “When a member of our community makes a financial donation, that money can be used to purchase the products that are most needed at that time.”

Orangeville Food Bank uses a “Shopping” model that allows people to choose the items they know they can use. That extends to their delivery service, where a volunteer “concierge” handpicks items from the client’s shopping list and carefully packages them for transportation, serving those who are unable to visit the food bank or hesitate to ask for help. They believe this allows for more dignified and respectful access to food and reduces overall food waste.

“The Dufferin Board of Trade takes the slogan ‘Think Local’ seriously,” says McKittrick. “Solving the problems you find in your own community, it’s a no-brainer for me.”
